Program Feature: Hood College Baseball

With the college baseball season right around the corner, we figured it was time to check in on another program we're excited to follow this spring: the Blazers of Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. Part of what makes this program unique -- and its recent growth and progress so impressive -- is that the 2015 season was its first-ever campaign. Basically, these guys have started winning ballgames in a hurry!

We're not the only ones who are pumped, of course: Head coach Cory Beddick, assistant coach Michael Impellittiere, and the rest of the staff are expecting big things from their 2017 squad, which will feature a lineup built around CF Cam Esposito (a junior from Columbia, New Jersey) and 3B Brooks Warrenfeltz (a junior from Middletown, Maryland) -- both of whom hit over .350 last year with OBPs above .400. On the mound, junior Jake Franke (Lisbon, Maryland) will anchor the Blazer rotation after posting a 2.65 ERA in more than 50 innings of work in 2016.

The MAC Commonwealth is no joke of a conference, and the Blazers should be poised to take a serious run at a title this year. Coach Beddick took home Coach of the Year honors in 2016 as Hood more than doubled its conference win total from its inaugural season, and this year's newcomers to the roster are expected to add some serious firepower to the mix. Expect some good baseball to be played in Frederick this spring!

On behalf of the entire Buckler team, good luck to the Blazer players, coaches, staff, and families!
